James Pendleton, Sr. (1922-2017) was a World War II veteran who deployed to the European Theater on D-Day, June 6, 1944, and was severely wounded in Belgium on December 19, 1944

Military decorations included the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Silver Star, and a 2011 medal for heroism from the Belgian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Served as Jefferson County commissioner at-large from 1979 to 1983 and on the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County board from 1993 to 1997

Resolution passed the House 93-0 on March 18, 2019, and was reported favorably by the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Transportation on March 28, 2019
