First enlisted in 1986, served in Army reserves until 1994, reenlisted in 2007, and deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in January 2009 with an MP unit tracking detainees and overseeing base closures

Medically retired in January 2012 after being selected for Warrant Officer Candidate School but unable to attend

Founded Old Glory Quilters in Parke County, which has presented over 1,500 Quilts of Honor to fellow veterans

Since January 2016, has worked with AMVETS, DAV, and Veterans of Foreign Wars legislative teams at the Indiana Statehouse to pass bills benefiting veterans
