Indiana General Assembly honors Jodie Elkins as the 2024 Indiana Rural Teacher of the Year, recognizing her contributions to rural education and student impact.

Elkins is a Pike Central High School graduate who returned to teach at her alma mater after earning education degrees from Hanover College and the University of Evansville, serving her school and community for over 40 years.

Under Elkins' leadership, Pike Central High School's Project Lead the Way Biomedical Sciences program grew to serve approximately 40% of the student body, with the program recognized as a model in 2012 and the school designated as a Project Lead the Way Distinguished School.

Elkins demonstrates extensive community engagement through service on the City of Petersburg Planning Commission and Parks and Recreation Board, Buffalo Trace Festival and Discover Downtown Petersburg steering committees, Prides Creek Golf Course Board, Dubois-Pike Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee, and Pike County Advisory Council to Memorial Hospital.

Secretary of the Senate directed to transmit copies of the resolution to Jodie Elkins, Pike Central High School, and Indiana Farm Bureau.
