Indiana adults (18+) with a terminal illness (prognosis of death within 6 months) who are capable and acting voluntarily may request medication to self-administer to bring about death, effective July 1, 2026

Requires two oral requests (at least 15 days apart, with exceptions for imminent death), a written request witnessed by two individuals, confirmation by both an attending and consulting provider, and mandatory counseling referral if psychiatric conditions are suspected

Life insurers cannot deny benefits under suicide clauses when death results from medical aid in dying under this chapter, regardless of how long the policy has been in effect

Unauthorized alteration, forgery, or destruction of medication requests with intent to cause death constitutes a Level 1 felony; coercing someone to request the medication is also a Level 1 felony; unauthorized document tampering affecting healthcare decisions is a Class A misdemeanor

Health care providers acting in good faith compliance receive civil, criminal, and professional immunity; providers may refuse to participate but must transfer patient records upon request
