Electronic eye charts are now authorized for vision screenings, defined as computerized systems displaying medically accepted optotypes (letters, numbers, symbols) to assess visual acuity

Electronic eye charts must meet national standards of care and guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics' Procedures for the Evaluation of the Visual System by Pediatricians

Prekindergarten students who cannot read the 20/30 line on the Snellen chart or 20/32 line on Sloan/HOTV/LEA charts must be recommended for further examination
