Counties with state parks or recreation areas may adopt an ordinance to impose a surcharge of up to $1 on entrance fees collected by the Department of Natural Resources

Annual state park pass holders are exempt from the surcharge

Department of Natural Resources must begin collecting the surcharge within 60 days of ordinance notification and remit funds monthly to the county treasurer

For parks spanning multiple counties, the surcharge revenue is prorated among counties that have adopted the ordinance

Collected funds must be used for public safety or infrastructure improvements (including water quality) that impact state park visitation or benefit the park and adjacent communities
