Counties may adopt an ordinance to impose a surcharge of up to $2 on entrance fees at state parks and state recreation areas located within the county

The surcharge is exempt for veterans, active duty military, individuals 65 years or older, and annual pass holders and their immediate family members

The Department of Natural Resources must begin collecting the surcharge within 60 days of receiving notice and remit funds to the county treasurer by the end of the following month

Revenue must be used for first responder purposes (compensation, equipment purchases/updates) and/or infrastructure improvements including water quality

Effective July 1, 2026
