County councils and county commissioners may abolish township assessor offices through unanimous vote by both bodies, consolidating duties with the county assessor effective January 1 following ordinance adoption

Upon elimination, all township assessor employees, property, funds, and outstanding obligations transfer to the county assessor, with existing employees protected from termination except through standard county assessor termination procedures

Department of Local Government Finance must adjust maximum property tax levies for affected counties and townships and establish procedures for transferring assessment records and operations

Township assessor positions will be removed from primary and general election ballots in counties where the office has been eliminated by unanimous vote

Legislative Services Agency directed to prepare legislation for the 2027 session to make additional code corrections reflecting township assessor abolition; emergency clause makes portions effective upon passage
