Five members of the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission (IURC) would be elected through nonpartisan elections beginning with the November 2026 general election, replacing the current gubernatorial appointment system.

Candidates must have resided in Indiana for at least one year and cannot hold any stock, securities, or pecuniary interest in utilities or persons with utility interests.

Candidates and their campaign committees are prohibited from soliciting or accepting contributions from utilities or persons with an interest in utilities during their candidacy.

IURC members would serve four-year terms, with elections occurring in 2026, 2030, 2034, 2038, 2042, and every four years thereafter; vacancies after November 2026 would be filled by appointment of remaining commissioners.

The Utility Regulatory Commission Nominating Committee (IC 8-1-1.5) would be repealed effective November 3, 2026, and current appointed members' terms would expire on that date.
