Indiana House Resolution celebrates the 70th anniversary of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., South Bend Alumnae Chapter, the first Black Greek letter organization in the Michiana area

The chapter was chartered on December 3, 1955, at the LaSalle Hotel in South Bend by nine women from the Sorors Club

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority was founded nationally on January 13, 1913, at Howard University by 22 women and now has over 1,000 chapters in more than 11 countries

Over 70 years, the South Bend chapter has raised thousands of dollars in scholarships for young women, conducted health symposiums, organized voter drives, and hosted health fairs providing free vaccinations

The Principal Clerk shall transmit copies of the resolution to State Representative Maureen Bauer for distribution
