Places a proposed constitutional amendment on the 2026 general election ballot as "Public Question #1" for voter ratification

Current Indiana Constitution denies bail only to persons charged with murder or treason when proof is evident or presumption strong

Proposed amendment would expand bail denial to persons charged with any offense (not just murder or treason) when proof is evident or presumption strong AND the state proves by clear and convincing evidence that no release conditions will protect public safety

Amendment was previously agreed to by the 123rd General Assembly (P.L.255-2023) and the 124th General Assembly (SJR 1-2026), as required for constitutional amendments under Article 16, Section 1

Effective July 1, 2026; this ballot language provision expires July 1, 2027
