Possession of a privately made firearm (commonly called "ghost guns") becomes a Level 5 felony, defined as firearms assembled without a serial number or by someone without a federal firearms license

Altering, obliterating, or removing firearm identification marks—including serial numbers, manufacturer names, model numbers, or any other identification marks—becomes a Level 5 felony

Possessing any firearm with removed, obliterated, or altered identification marks becomes a Level 5 felony

Exemptions apply to firearms registered in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record or manufactured before October 22, 1968 (unless remanufactured after that date)
