Drive-through facilities (restaurants, pharmacies, and financial institutions) constructed or renovated after December 31, 2026, must include a bypass lane adjacent to each drive-through lane

Bypass lanes must be at least 10 feet wide, include clear signage, and allow vehicles to exit the drive-through or enable emergency responders to access vehicles in line

Exemptions apply to facilities built before January 1, 2027, where insufficient space exists and compliance would force closure or relocation, and to drive-throughs where the lane passes through the building structure

Denied exemptions may be appealed within 30 days, and the Fire Prevention and Building Safety Commission must adopt administrative rules to implement the requirements

Effective date is July 1, 2026, with bypass lane requirements applying to construction and major renovations after December 31, 2026
