Schools must adopt policies prohibiting student wireless device use during the entire school day (expanded from just instructional time), with two options: ban devices from school entirely, or require devices be stored away, powered off, and inaccessible throughout the day

Educational device use must occur only on school-supplied devices; a temporary provision through July 1, 2028 allows "school sanctioned" student-owned devices with school network controls if schools cannot provide devices

Smartwatches connected to cellular phones, cell towers, or the Internet are now explicitly included in the definition of prohibited wireless communication devices

Exceptions allow device use for IEPs, Section 504 plans, documented medical conditions, superintendent-authorized emergencies, and language translation for multilingual learners

Students may use unobtrusive audio recording devices for notetaking/learning assistance if the device captures only audio (no images/video), remains visible to teachers, and schools retain authority to restrict such use; recordings cannot be used for disciplinary purposes against students or employees
