Group health insurance programs for firefighters must cover screening for 12 specific cancer types (colon, lung, bladder, oral, thyroid, skin, blood, breast, cervical, testicular, prostate, and other firefighter-associated cancers) with no copayments, deductibles, or cost sharing requirements

Local unit public employers are required to provide cancer insurance for active firefighters, retired firefighters, and firefighters receiving disability benefits, through group insurance policies, self-insurance programs, or the Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS)

The INPRS board of trustees is authorized to enter into agreements with insurance companies to provide group cancer insurance for active, retired, and disabled firefighters

The Department of Homeland Security must develop a firefighter cancer awareness and prevention program in consultation with medical professionals and industry experts to educate fire department personnel and volunteers on best practices for reducing cancer risk

Effective July 1, 2026, applying to policies issued, delivered, amended, or renewed after June 30, 2026
