Law enforcement civilian oversight boards and commissions may only operate in an advisory capacity and cannot have binding authority over law enforcement agencies

Applies to all oversight entities existing on July 1, 2026, as well as any established after June 30, 2026

Merit boards or commissions established under IC 36-8-3.5 are exempt from these restrictions

Effective date is July 1, 2026
