Kautz served as Chief Marshal of Long Beach, Indiana beginning in 1977

On November 4, 1997, Chief Marshal Kautz was struck while on duty at a three-vehicle traffic accident on U.S. 12; he died from his injuries on December 4, 1997

Resolution passed unanimously in both Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Transportation (9-0) and House Committee on Roads and Transportation (12-0)
