Indiana became Taiwan's first sister state in November 1979, and the resolution reaffirms commitment to strengthening these bilateral ties in trade, education, cultural exchanges, and tourism.

In 2024, Taiwan was Indiana's ninth-largest export market in Asia with $262 million in exports and $16 million in investment; thirteen Taiwan-affiliated companies operate in Indiana supporting an estimated 3,000 jobs.

The resolution supports the 1979 Taiwan Relations Act and 2025 Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act, encouraging Indiana officials to engage with Taiwan diplomats.

The resolution backs Taiwan's efforts to pursue bilateral trade negotiations with the U.S. and supports Taiwan's meaningful participation in international organizations.

The Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit copies to Indiana's federal congressional delegation and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago.
