Municipalities may prohibit their employees from carrying concealed handguns in municipal buildings by adopting a resolution or drafting a letter that includes a security plan for the building

The prohibition requires the municipality to list the legal description of the building, state the reasons for the prohibition, and certify that an adequate security plan has been developed

A copy of the security plan must be maintained on file and made available upon request to the Kansas Attorney General and local law enforcement, though the plan itself is exempt from public records disclosure

The security plan disclosure exemption will expire on July 1, 2030, unless the legislature reviews and reenacts the provision before that date

Amends K.S.A. 75-7c20 within the Personal and Family Protection Act, taking effect upon publication in the statute book
