Kansas governmental agencies prohibited from purchasing drones, related services, maintenance agreements, or equipment with critical components produced in or owned by foreign principals from countries of concern, effective July 1, 2025

Countries of concern include China (including Hong Kong), Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, and Venezuela; Taiwan is explicitly excluded from this designation

State agencies prohibited from contracting for final or finished goods or services from foreign principals, with exceptions for entities that have received CFIUS national security clearance or maintain active national security agreements with the U.S.

Existing drones and components acquired before July 1, 2025 may continue to be used, but new replacement components cannot be sourced from foreign principals after that date

Exemptions available when no reasonable alternatives exist, the secretary of administration approves after consulting with the adjutant general, and the security risk of non-acquisition exceeds the risk of the prohibited purchase
