Possession of a firearm on school property (K-12 unified school districts or accredited nonpublic schools) by non-law enforcement individuals is upgraded from a class B nonperson select misdemeanor to a severity level 9 nonperson felony

Refusing to surrender or remove a firearm from school property when directed by authorized school employees or law enforcement is upgraded from a class A nonperson misdemeanor to a severity level 8 nonperson felony

Exemptions remain for firearms safety courses approved by the school, written authorization from superintendents/administrators, secured firearms in vehicles by parents during student drop-off/pickup, voters at school polling places, and concealed carry by individuals 21+ or with valid licenses

Law enforcement officers are exempt from these restrictions while on school grounds

The bill amends K.S.A. 21-6301 and takes effect upon publication in the statute book
