Adult sex offenders (18+) whose crime involved a victim under 16 years of age are prohibited from entering school property or attending school activities, with exceptions for voting at polling places, attending religious services, enrolled students, and parents/guardians who follow school board monitoring procedures

Violations are classified as severity level 8 person felony (first offense), severity level 5 person felony (second offense), and severity level 3 person felony (third or subsequent offense)

Lifetime-registered adult sex offenders whose crime involved a victim under 18 are prohibited from residing within 1,000 feet of any school property, measured from the nearest edge of the residence to the nearest edge of school property

Residency restriction exemptions apply to offenders who lived in their residence before July 1, 2025, or whose residence predates a newly built/acquired school, provided they notify law enforcement and submit proof within specified timeframes

Drug offenders may petition for relief from registration requirements after 5 years, and certain other offenders after 10 years, if they demonstrate rehabilitation and that registration is no longer necessary for public safety; courts must notify the Kansas Bureau of Investigation within 14 days of granting relief
