Licensed private psychiatric hospitals in Kansas may stock and maintain emergency medication kits approved by the hospital's medical staff and pharmacist, for use when drugs are not available from other sources in time to prevent patient harm

Emergency kits may include controlled substances, with a pharmaceutical services committee responsible for limiting the type and quantity of controlled substances in each kit

The pharmacist-in-charge maintains control of kit drugs until administered to patients and must develop procedures for proper control, accountability, and accurate recordkeeping

The Secretary of Health and Environment and the State Board of Pharmacy must jointly adopt rules governing kit contents, control procedures, recordkeeping, and storage requirements

Takes effect January 1, 2027; emergency medication kits at private psychiatric hospitals must be consistent with kits used by state psychiatric hospitals
