Sex offenders age 18 or older who are required to register for life and whose crime involved a victim under 14 years old are prohibited from residing within 1,000 feet of any school property (K-12 public or accredited private schools)

Offenders already living within 1,000 feet of a school before July 1, 2026 may remain if they notify law enforcement and provide proof of prior residence by September 30, 2026

Offenders whose residence later falls within 1,000 feet due to new school construction may remain if they notify law enforcement within 90 days of the school beginning instruction

The 1,000-foot distance is measured from the nearest edge of the offender's residence structure (including attached garage) to the nearest edge of the school property

Amends K.S.A. 22-4902 to add a definition of "school property" and takes effect upon publication in the Kansas Register
