KS SB133

Creates the crime of "unlawful storage of a firearm" when a gun is not secured by a trigger lock, locked container, or other reasonably secure location and a minor (under 18) gains access to it

Establishes tiered penalties: Class C misdemeanor if a minor accesses the firearm; severity level 9 felony if a minor uses it to cause bodily harm; severity level 5 felony if a minor uses it to cause great bodily harm or death

Provides defenses including: firearm was inoperable, firearm was within owner's immediate access and control, minor unlawfully entered the storage area, or minor used the firearm in lawful self-defense

Takes effect upon publication in the Kansas statute book
