Kansas Department of Health and Environment must verify that each hospital complies with the Kansas Lay Caregiver Act, which requires hospitals to give patients the opportunity to designate a caregiver and provide that caregiver with discharge instructions and aftercare education.

Beginning in 2026, the department must conduct annual audits of hospital compliance with the act and compile the results.

Compiled audit results and any other relevant information must be reported to the House Committee on Health and Human Services and the Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare by January 31 each year.

The bill amends K.S.A. 65-431a with minor technical corrections, including changing "nursing home" to "adult care home" in the definition of residence.
