Beginning in school year 2027-2028, Kansas schools participating in food service, lunch, or breakfast programs are prohibited from serving reimbursable or free/reduced-price meals containing 12 specific food additives including brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, azodicarbonamide, titanium dioxide, and seven artificial dyes (FD&C red 3, red 40, yellow 5, yellow 6, blue 1, blue 2, and green 3)

Schools must certify during required facility inspections under K.S.A. 65-688 that they do not serve food containing the prohibited additives as part of reimbursable or free/reduced-price meals

Starting in school year 2028-2029, schools unable to certify compliance must submit a corrective action plan to the secretary within 30 days and post the violation notice and plan on the school's website for one year

Schools that incorrectly certify compliance must follow the corrective action plan requirements and notify parents/guardians of all enrolled students about the violation

Applies to all public school districts and nonpublic schools in Kansas offering grades kindergarten through 12
