Mandatory medroxyprogesterone acetate treatment (chemical castration) required for persons convicted of sex crimes against victims under age 12, in addition to other penalties

Treatment must begin no later than 1 month prior to release from custody and continue until release from probation, parole, or postincarceration supervision

Offenders must pay for treatment costs unless determined indigent under KRS Chapter 31, in which case the Commonwealth covers expenses

Prior to treatment, offenders must be evaluated by a licensed physician, informed of effects and side effects, and authorize release of medical records to the Department of Corrections

Intentional violation of treatment requirements may result in reincarceration for the remaining initial sentence plus the entire or remaining postincarceration supervision period
