Beginning in the 2027-2028 school year, school districts that provide healthcare services through school nurses must bill the school-based Medicaid program for medically necessary services provided to Medicaid-enrolled students with parental consent.

Third-party billing vendors contracted by school districts must have capacity to submit claims for all codes in the Medicaid Technical Assistance Guide and bill for codes within nurse practitioner scope of practice.

School nurses become eligible to receive preventative dental services training from the Department for Public Health, and districts may bill Medicaid for preventative dental services within a school nurse's scope of practice.

Requirements do not apply to school districts that contract with local health departments for school nurse services.

Nothing in the bill requires school districts to provide healthcare services through a school nurse.
