School districts may revise their 2025-2026 school year calendars to meet a minimum of 1,062 instructional hours instead of the standard 170 student attendance days required under KRS 158.070

The commissioner of education shall grant up to 10 additional disaster relief student attendance days for alternative instruction settings when schools close for health or safety reasons, beyond the existing 10 days under current law

Districts may add time to student attendance days to meet instructional hour requirements, with a maximum of 7 hours per day unless approved for an innovative alternative calendar

Local boards of education must submit a plan to the Kentucky Department of Education for approval demonstrating how required instructional hours will be completed

Classified and certified employees receive credit for completing one day of their employment contract for each make-up day, and the act takes effect immediately upon passage as emergency legislation
