The composition was commissioned for Lexington, Kentucky's 250th anniversary and consists of four movements telling the story of the Commonwealth

The four movements address Kentucky's equestrian heritage ("Hoofbeat Fanfare"), bourbon culture ("After Bourbon"), the legacy of slavery including Lexington's former slave market ("Cheapside"), and future hope ("Beyond Bluegrass")

Creates a new section of KRS Chapter 2 to codify the designation alongside existing state symbols including "My Old Kentucky Home" (state song) and "Blue Moon of Kentucky" (state bluegrass song)
