Requires the state medical examiner to perform an autopsy on a non-coroner's case when requested in writing by the decedent's spouse, next of kin, or person responsible for disposing of the body

Establishes a priority order for who may request an autopsy: spouse first, then next of kin, then the person assuming responsibility for body disposition

Shifts the cost of family-requested autopsies (non-coroner's cases) to the person making the written request, rather than the fiscal court or state

Amends KRS 72.425 and KRS 72.460 to create this new pathway for families to obtain autopsies through the state medical examiner's office
