Students enrolled in nonpublic schools (private, parochial, or church schools) may participate in interscholastic athletics at the public school they would otherwise be assigned to based on residence

Nonpublic school students must meet the same requirements as public school students: pay participation fees, follow behavior and academic standards, complete physical exams, meet immunization and insurance requirements, and comply with age and semester eligibility rules

Parents must register the student's intent to participate before the first instructional day of the semester and provide documentation of academic eligibility through standardized test results, portfolio review, or prior school records

Transportation to athletic activities is the responsibility of the parent or student, though students may use school-provided transportation if no additional costs are incurred

Public schools cannot discriminate against eligible nonpublic school students in team selection, but participation is designated as a privilege rather than a right, creating no cause of action against schools or districts
