No physician referral required before seeking chronic pain treatment from these providers, and cost-sharing (deductibles, copays, coinsurance) cannot exceed amounts charged for primary care visits

Practitioners must discuss and refer patients to alternative chronic pain treatments when appropriate before prescribing Schedule II controlled substances or Schedule III substances containing hydrocodone

Medicaid and managed care organizations contracted for Medicaid benefits must comply with these chronic pain treatment coverage requirements

Effective date is January 1, 2027 for health benefit plans issued or renewed after that date; Cabinet for Health and Family Services has 90 days to request any necessary federal approval for Medicaid implementation
