District board of education members may be recalled from office for "neglect of duty," which includes bribery, felony conviction, misappropriation of public funds, habitual impairment from alcohol or controlled substances, misfeasance, malfeasance, or two Class A misdemeanor convictions within 8 years

Recall proceedings require at least 5 eligible voters to file a notice of intent with the county clerk, followed by a petition signed by 25% of voters who cast ballots in the last election for that board position

Petitions cannot be filed during the first 90 days of a board member's term or within 180 days of the regular election where the recall would appear on the ballot

A recalled board member is disqualified from holding any state office for 4 years and cannot be appointed to fill the resulting vacancy; if not recalled, the member cannot face another recall petition for at least 1 year

Giving or receiving money or anything of value for signing a recall petition constitutes a Class A misdemeanor
