Violations do not result in points against the driver's license, but failure to pay or contest the citation results in suspension of the vehicle's registration until payment is made

Defenses include yielding to emergency vehicles, stolen vehicle/plates, malfunctioning traffic signals, or identifying another person as the driver at the time of violation
