Hornback served in the Kentucky Senate beginning in 2010, representing Shelby, Carroll, Trimble, and part of Jefferson Counties, and chaired the Senate Committee on Agriculture

Key legislative accomplishments include reestablishing hemp as a legal commodity in Kentucky, reorganizing the State Fair Board, and modernizing Kentucky's grain indemnity fund

Helped raise $15 million for the UK Grain and Forage Center for Excellence at Princeton and secured $9 million in emergency funding after the 2021 tornadoes damaged the Princeton campus
