LA HB220

Creates the crime of "unlawful storage of a firearm" when a person leaves a loaded firearm in a dwelling or vehicle, knows a minor child is likely to gain access without parental permission, and the child obtains the firearm and either discharges it or exhibits it in a public place

Penalties include imprisonment up to 6 months, a fine up to $1,000, or both

Exceptions apply when the firearm is stolen during unlawful entry, when a minor has permission for hunting or sporting activities, when the firearm is carried on the person, or when secured with a trigger lock or locked container

Arrests are prohibited for 7 days after the alleged offense if the offender is a family member of the child and the child caused death or serious injury to themselves through discharge of the firearm
