Local school boards may require students to undergo security screenings for weapons upon initial entry onto campus during school days, including passage through metal detectors or other weapon detection systems

Manual searches or electronic scans of students' personal effects (backpacks, lunch bags, etc.) are permitted as part of entry screenings

Teachers, principals, security guards, and administrators may search students or personal effects during school days and extracurricular/cocurricular activities when reasonable grounds exist to suspect a violation

Entry screenings are not considered searches of individual persons, and schools face no liability for not conducting screenings

Random metal detector searches of students may be conducted at any time without deliberate physical contact
