Employers must provide and pay for lifetime health insurance coverage for surviving spouses of law enforcement officers and firemen killed in the line of duty

Surviving children, stepchildren, or adopted children receive employer-paid health insurance if under 18, under 23 and enrolled in school full-time, or physically/mentally disabled

Coverage must be equal to that offered to active members if such coverage exists; surviving spouses and guardians may decline coverage

Applies only to parishes with population between 240,000 and 255,000 persons based on the latest federal decennial census

Provisions apply retroactively to January 1, 2017 for payment of health insurance benefits to eligible survivors
