Exterior renovation projects exceeding $200,000 on state, parish, or municipal property designated as landmarks or contributing structures in historic preservation districts must follow Department of Interior preservation guidelines or obtain a certificate of appropriateness

State or local governments must notify legislators and the local historic district commission in writing before beginning such projects, describing the scope of proposed work

Local historic district commissions have 30 days to decide whether to review a project; if they choose to review, a public hearing must be held in the parish or municipality where the property is located

Historic district commissions may issue stop orders or file suit within 30 days of the public hearing to seek reversal, modification, or injunctive relief for non-compliant projects

Emergency repairs to prevent further damage are exempt from the review process; the law applies only to projects beginning on or after August 1, 2025
