Public schools must offer annual mental health assessments by licensed behavioral health providers to students in grades 3 through 12, with parental or guardian authorization required each year

Assessments should be offered during the school year, preferably in the first semester, with principals having discretion over scheduling and location

Licensed behavioral health providers include mental health professionals licensed under Louisiana law and behavioral health service providers licensed by the Louisiana Department of Health

Assessments must be provided at no cost to local public school boards

Schools must annually report the number of screenings administered by grade level to the state Department of Education at the end of each school year
