Healthcare professionals qualify for emergency privileges if they are credentialed to perform the same procedure at the receiving hospital, which the transferring hospital must verify

Emergency privileges are valid only for the duration of the unique procedure being performed

Healthcare professionals must notify the transferring hospital of their intent to seek emergency privileges before departing, and the hospital must grant privileges within one hour of receiving notice

"Unique procedures" are defined as treatments such as extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) and organ transplantation procedures
