Received journalism awards from the Press Club of New Orleans, Louisiana Press Association, Association of Alternative Newsweeklies, and Associated Press Association of Louisiana and Mississippi

Native of New Orleans' Ninth Ward who graduated from Holy Cross High School (1972), earned a B.A. in history from University of New Orleans (1976), and a J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans (1993)
