Local public school boards may offer annual mental health screenings for students in grades K-12 during the first semester, with written parental consent required before any screening can be conducted

Schools must notify parents of available screenings and identify the screening tool being used on the consent form; students who have reached the age of majority or are emancipated minors may consent independently

Louisiana Department of Health must select appropriate mental health screening tools and provide them at no cost to school boards

Screening results are confidential, disclosed only to parents/guardians or adult students, and must be destroyed within 30 days of notification; no metadata collection is permitted

Schools cannot use screening results for decisions related to instruction, academic opportunities, or discipline, and school authorities are protected from liability related to screening results
