LA SB183

Creates a new crime prohibiting Louisiana legislators and their spouses from accepting anything of economic value from nongovernmental organizations that receive funds designated by the Louisiana Legislature or a state agency

Excludes fundraiser event tickets, meals, or reimbursable expenses that do not exceed $1,000 in a calendar year from the definition of "thing of economic value"

Makes it a crime for any person to aid or abet a legislator in violating this prohibition

Penalties include fines between $5,000 and $10,000, imprisonment with or without hard labor for 1-5 years, or both

Effective August 1, 2025
