LA SB8

Amends Article X, Section 2(B) of the Louisiana Constitution to authorize the legislature to add officers, positions, and employees to the unclassified state civil service by law

Requires that any positions added to the unclassified service by law may only be removed from unclassified status through legislative action, not by commission rules alone

Retains existing commission authority to add positions to unclassified service by rule, but removes commission authority to revoke such positions

Requires voter approval through a statewide election on April 18, 2026 (if HB 625 becomes effective) or November 3, 2026 (if HB 625 does not become effective)

Passed by two-thirds vote of both houses as required for constitutional amendments
