Parish presidents, mayors, sheriffs, chiefs of police, or chief executive officers of political subdivisions may establish temporary protection zones within their jurisdiction when necessary to ensure public safety, covering highways, shorelines, waterways, or other areas.

Written proclamations must specify the circumstances necessitating the zone, geographic boundaries, effective date and time, and access/activity restrictions, with prompt public notice and filing with the clerk of court.

Temporary protection zones expire after 72 hours but may be renewed if conditions still warrant.

Penalties for violating a zone after being advised of its existence: up to $500 fine and/or 6 months imprisonment for wrongful use of public property; up to 5 years hard labor if serious bodily injury or property damage exceeds $5,000; up to 21 years hard labor if a death occurs.

Effective upon governor's signature or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
