Law enforcement officers employed full-time by public postsecondary education institutions would be prohibited from receiving state supplemental pay of $600 per month

Current law provides supplemental pay to commissioned officers employed by bona fide police agencies of the state or political subdivisions headquartered in New Orleans or Lake Charles who patrol levees, waterways, riverfront areas, or bridges

Officers must have completed one year of service to be eligible; those hired after March 31, 1986 must also complete a council-certified training program

The prohibition on supplemental pay continues to apply to officers employed by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries

Effective upon signature by the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action
