Healthcare facilities must conduct a behavioral health evaluation by a licensed professional and contact the patient's primary care or behavioral health provider within 72 hours of admission under an emergency certificate

Upon discharge, facilities must notify the patient's current behavioral health or primary care providers of the discharge date and time, unless the patient objects

Facilities must provide written or telephonic notification within 24 hours of discharge to any healthcare professional receiving the patient for follow-up, including a summary of medical history and current mental health conditions

Patients without an existing healthcare provider must be referred to appropriate behavioral and primary care services upon discharge

Facilities must provide patients with Louisiana Department of Health educational documents about self-harm warning signs and a minimum 14-day supply of prescribed behavioral health medication at discharge
